Who is faster?

Depends on the race you're running.

Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

Whenever I hear someone talk about moving faster, that phrase goes through my mind.

I get the argument.

The faster we get to market...

The faster we get code in production...

The faster we fail...

But faster how?

If you’re running a 100m sprint, you can optimize every bit of the race to squeeze speed off the blocks all the way through the finish line.

But what about a marathon?

The best marathon runners in the world run marathons faster than 99.999% of the world. But at any individual stretch of 100m, the sprinter is going to win.

Does that mean the sprinter is faster than the marathon runner?

Only if you’re trying to win a sprint.

So the question is:

What race are you running?
