Don’t rush the work
Give yourself (and your team) the time to think.
If you want to get something done quickly, don't rush the work.
Don't cram 16 (or worse - 40) hours of work into eight hours. You will make mistakes.
Spend some time thinking about the problem first.
It’s counterintuitive. But it works.
When you take time to think about the problem, you can see what other avenues you can take to get there.
In other words, what’s another path to this destination?
It’s easy to get stuck in an iterative process. Especially under pressure.
It’s the way our brain works naturally. The brain wants to do the simple, small next step.
But if you give yourself the space to be creative, you may surprise yourself by breaking through the limitations you thought you had.
Rethink the problem.
Thinking for four hours to discover a four hour solution beats working on a 40-hour solution you thought about for 30 minutes.
But you can only get there if you give yourself the space to think.
Don’t accept the limitations you think you have.
And by the way, this applies to your team too.
Don’t rush the work.
